| Gateway story
Currently, this gateway has passive elements,
which show some of the colours a computer can produce. Therefore,
establish the gateway story quickly, before moving straight on to
the PC-based activity. This takes children through the process of
creating colours for the computer screen.
In order to do this, download the instructions
for the activity and make into cards before showing the gateway
to the children.

Approximate time required: Up
to 10 minutes per child
Resources needed
A personal computer (PC)
Using a computer colour chart sheets cut into
four 'cards'
Suggested organisation
Children work in pairs. 'Peer tuition' can be used,
in which a child is shown how to do the activity. He/she then shows the
next child, and so on.
Carrying out the activity
The children use one or more of the cards from
the Using a computer colour chart , to set
up and use the colour selection facility on the computer, to change the
background screen colour. They also invent a name for the new background
colour.
Encourage the children to experiment, rather
than worry about the technical attributes. They will, with experience,
begin to understand how to produce the kind of colour they want to make.
You can also encourage them to have some fun inventing names that are
attractive, amusing and marketable.
